We start by examining your roof or wall to assess the porosity of the material and the condition of the surface. If moss or soiling is present, prior cleaning will be needed before applying the waterproofing. A water absorption test lets us determine the most suitable product and dosage.
Waterproofing can only be applied to a clean, dry substrate. If your roof is soiled, we first carry out professional gentle cleaning (see our Cleaning & Moss Removal service). A drying time of 24 to 48 hours is observed between cleaning and waterproofing application.
The waterproofing is sprayed uniformly across the entire surface using professional low-pressure equipment. We apply two cross-passes to guarantee complete, even penetration. Temperature must be between 5°C and 35°C, with no rain forecast in the following 24 hours.
After full drying (24 to 48 hours), we verify the water-beading effect across the entire treated surface. An intervention report is handed over with details of the product used, the surface treated, and maintenance recommendations. Protection is effective immediately and lasts 8 to 10 years.
The principle is simple: the product penetrates the tile by a few millimetres and modifies the surface behaviour. Water can no longer seep in — it forms droplets that roll and slide, like on a lotus leaf. This is known as the 'beading effect'. Technically, it is a silicone-based product that lines the inside of the material's pores (tile, stone, brick).
The big difference from an impermeable coating is that waterproofing lets the roof 'breathe'. Indoor moisture can still escape through the tiles, but rain can no longer enter. This is important: a roof that cannot breathe accumulates condensation inside, which causes mould and damages materials.
The principles are the same but the constraints differ. On a roof, the waterproofing must withstand intense UV, repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and rainwater run-off. The products we use for roofs are specifically formulated for these extreme conditions, with enhanced UV resistance.
On a wall, the demands are different: driving rain projection, urban soiling, masonry movement. Wall waterproofing must be compatible with the substrate (stone, brick, render, finish coat) and must not alter its visual appearance.
